if you have not yet heard, one manga and 1000 manga is having all of its manga being removed. this week and THIS WEEK ONLY is the last week to read manga on those sites.

the forums, however, will still be up.
read the message and weep D:

The removal of content will happen gradually (so you can at least finish some of the outstanding reading you have), but we expect all content to be gone by early next week (RIP OM July '10).

So what next? We're not really sure at this point, but we have some ideas we would like to try out. Until then, the One Manga forums will remain active and we encourage all of you to continue using them. OMF has developed into a great community and it would be a shame to see that disappear.

Regardless of whether you stay with us or not, on behalf of the One Manga team, I would like to thank you all for your unwavering support over the years. Through the ups and downs you have stuck with us, and that is what kept us going.

As a certain Porky was fond of saying... That's all folks!

Time for me to go lay down and let this all sink in.

I've heard about this as well and i'm really frustrated by it. That's because i can only read mangas online since shops selling mangas in my country are so rare. It's really not fair! I do understand that they need their mangas to be actually bought, but i believe that internet is a great way to spread the "manga virus" and it can also be used to get a profit out of it. There are many ideas they could come up with using the internet. Cutting it off means a step back in my opinion... Sad

omg , ive also heard about this , and now reading about it makes me really sad , but i guess the upside is that this will make the anime and manga market exspand because everyone will be buying them , so there will be money flow now , so the real question is what do we anime and manga readers do now???

well, i agree that its going to bring in a mega cash flow, however, for countries that have seldom any manga shops, its very idiotic.

also, i think a few of the other sits are shutting down as well.

I agree with Fruity-chan since i come from such a country where i barely find any mangas to buy...
Oh! The onemanga staff decided to keep it open these days as well. They said "until the end of the month"... Guess everything has an end... Sad

well I am looking at this from a stand point of a manga artist, with onemanga.com open, the great artists have been losing great money and that has caused the manga industry to slow down on productions, now bring manga artists to a hold with their passion and job.
So hopefully the shutting down of these site will cause the development of manga and manga artists to jump extremely high! Later causing more Manga!! So their is a good approach on this problem in my eyes....

It's true that the financial difficulties have been a lot worse lately. However, manga artists can use internet to their advantage. For example they could start such a site like onemanga is and people all over the world just have to pay a certain amount each month to stay as a member. Something like that, i dunno... But internet is the easiest way for people in different parts of the world to be able to read mangas and it could also be a source of profit. Or so i think...

your correct about that yoko but you must remember their are people that steal peoples art, so i am pretty sure some artists don't want to risk it

Ah, posted about this (Yoko-chan too).
Well, I read and understand what all that you pointed out, and yes, I'm pretty unsettled (free stuff ftw).

I'm not sure why such measures now, I guess this http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-03-01/kodansha-reports-5.7-billion-yen-loss-in-2009 didn't help.

I think the publisher's site should have already allowed online reading of their manga (from the beginning). This way, worldwide fans wouldn't be neglected, it would bring profit and no need for the online manga sites. I know atleast Tokyopop does (around 20 pages, which is pretty nice, even though I think full is the way to go nowadays). This is ofc for licensed manga, unlicensed should be more than able to read online.

Another brilliant project that Mangahelpers is developing called Openmanga will allow scanlators do their work and if some, I don't know, company is interested in publishing their version, they will get profit while staying 100% free to read online.

The thing is, I don't like where but most importantly how this is being lead, I would like to know what the publishing companies are planning to do, if they will indeed allow online reading in their sites, but it's all in the dark (frown).
Otherwise, I think neglecting reading to worldwide fans is a heartless and not very smart thing to do. It won't cease, so it would be better not to tease or the effort will be in vain. So I hope they get smart and allow online reading on their sites. It's the only way that I see.

@ Gaara-senpai You're right, but i believe that is inevitable anyhow. At least using internet a source of profit would also help them. At the same time, they could have the person administrating the site to have regular internet checks in order to see if there are other sites posting the scans and shut them down or something. I really think it could work... Sad

@ Iru-chan I totally agree! They just need to use internet to their advantage and it is something doable and not that difficult to plan. Well i guess we'll just have to wait and see what they're planning to do... Sad
