Basic's on Manga Empty Basic's on Manga

Post by gaara`s land Sat Jan 09, 2010 12:58 pm

    Helping out all the newbies

Manga are Japanese comic books. Manga is often made into Japanese cartoons, or Anime. The art in Manga has a very definite look to it and is often referred to as “Manga Style.”

    Pronunciation:
(Maw – Nnnnn – Gah) In Japanese, it is actually three syllables, although the middle "N" is spoken very quick. Americans have a habit of pronouncing it "Man-Gah", but that is not actually correct.

    Basic Idea:

Recently, Manga has become popular in America. It has been a very successful new medium that has become very popular with young people. Manga, and the Anime that it has inspired, has been seen on T.V., in movies, and has even influenced the art styles of certain American artists like Ed McGuinness, Brian Wood, and Frank Miller.

In Japan, a lot of Anime is based on popular Manga, but in America, it is usually the other way around. Most of the times, publishers will wait until an Anime has been released through stations like Fox, Cartoon Network, and The WB. Then the Manga will be published in conjunction with the release of the cartoon.

When most people think of comics in the United States, they usually think of superheroes and the comic strips that appear in newspapers. Outside of a devoted fan base, comics don't garner much respect as art or literature. In Japan, comics are highly popular with males and females of all ages and walks of life. The amount of money spent on MangaMangaManga each year numbers in the billions.

Part of Manga's popularity is that there is a title for anyone, no matter what his or her interests. From the kid-friendly adventures of Pokémon to the adult underworld drama of Sanctuary, Manga includes every conceivable genre. Manga story lines are known for their depth and complexity, and series contain from two volumes to 20+ books

    Advanced Manga Ideas:

Ever since Tokyopop created their line of American created titles, dubbed OEL (Original English Language) manga, fans have been debating if they should be called manga. What is manga? Is it a style, or set of drawing conventions? Is it a country/ethnic specific creation? Or is just as the word translates to, funny pictures, or comics?

The simplicity of thinking about manga as “comics from Japan” rings true to me. Still, nobody would be interested in manga if the stories were not compelling.

    Manga Types:

    Seinen Manga

Definition of seinen manga or Japanese comics for men, plus examples of seinen manga.

    Doujinshi

This type of manga translates as "fan-work" (literally "same-person-writing") Doujinshi is unofficial manga that is made and produced by fans of an original series, or a self-published manga.

Introduction to Original English Language Manga

Inspired by Japanese manga but created by American, European or Canadian creators, original English language manga or OEL manga is staking its claim to its place the world of comics and mainstream publishing. Our overview introduces you to this emerging and fast-growing segment of the graphic novels world.

You left out that Doujinshi is bascially yaoi.
The info is accurate other then that.
